Does this load clear your costs?

A rate is only good against your costs. Put the linehaul, the loaded and deadhead miles, diesel price, MPG, and your cost per mile in, and see the operating profit and the break-even rate for this specific load.

Estimates from numbers you type. Not tax advice. Not a filing. Not a tax-due figure.

What the load pays

The linehaul or gross rate on the rate confirmation, in dollars.

Detention, layover, tarps, extra stops. Dollars. Leave blank if none.

What the load costs to run

Miles under the load.

Empty miles to the pickup and away from the delivery. Leave blank if none.

Dollars per gallon you expect to pay on this run.

Miles per gallon across loaded and empty running.

Your cost per mile

Maintenance, tires, tolls, and anything else that scales with miles. Dollars per mile.

The share of your monthly fixed costs each mile has to carry. The cost-per-mile tool works this out.

Percent of gross the factor keeps. Leave blank if you are not factoring this load.

Example numbers are a demonstration of the math, not a claim about any real load. Everything you type stays in this browser.

The math, in the open

No hidden assumptions.

Every number above comes out of these lines. If you disagree with an assumption, change the input. The tool will not quietly override you.

total miles = loaded miles + deadhead milesgross revenue = linehaul + accessorialfactoring fee = gross revenue × fee %fuel cost = (total miles ÷ MPG) × diesel priceoperating cost = fuel + (other variable CPM × total miles) + (fixed CPM × total miles)operating profit = gross revenue − factoring fee − operating costbreak-even revenue = operating cost ÷ (1 − fee %)
Total miles
Loaded miles plus deadhead miles
Revenue
Linehaul plus any accessorial you enter
Fuel
Total miles ÷ MPG × diesel price
Factoring
A percentage of gross revenue, deducted before profit
Fixed
Your allocated fixed cost per mile × total miles

What this estimate is not

  • Not tax, legal, accounting, or filing advice.
  • Not a booking recommendation and not guaranteed profit.
  • Ignores detention you never collect and costs you did not enter.
  • Assumes the MPG and diesel price you expect, not what the trip does.
  • Does not account for where the load leaves you or what is available next.

Where the real numbers come from

  • Confirmed rate confirmations, which carry what a load actually paid.
  • Confirmed fuel receipts, which carry gallons, price, and location.
  • Records you can search, correct, and produce again later.
  • See how records get captured

Questions about this tool.

Why is revenue per total mile lower than the rate per mile I was quoted?
Because brokers quote loaded miles and your truck burns fuel on all of them. Deadhead adds cost without adding revenue, so spreading the same rate over loaded plus empty miles is the honest measure.
What is the break-even rate telling me?
It is the revenue per total mile at which this load exactly covers the costs you entered, including the factoring fee. Below it, the load does not cover those costs.
Is this telling me to take the load?
No. It is arithmetic on the numbers you typed, not a booking recommendation and not guaranteed profit. Where the load leaves you, what it does to your week, and what is available next are all yours to weigh.
Where do I get my fixed cost per mile?
From the cost-per-mile calculator, using your monthly fixed costs and the miles you actually run. Leave it blank and the result only covers fuel and the variable costs you entered.
